How does Glucophage SR work?

One of the main causes of PCOS is insulin resistance. Glucophage SR helps improve the body’s sensitivity to produced insulin, thereby reducing glucose production. This also helps treat PCOS, reduce symptoms, and improve fertility. Glucophage SR is a sustained-release medication, so you only need to take one tablet once or twice a day. How is Glucophage SR taken?

Are there any side effects?

Like all medications, Glucophage SR can cause some side effects. The most common side effects are:
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

Loss of appetite

A strange or metallic taste in the mouth. These side effects are likely to go away, but if they persist or are bothersome, contact your doctor for further advice.

In some cases, Glucophage SR can cause more serious side effects, including:
Feeling extremely tired and having fast or shallow breathing
Freezing or a slow heartbeat
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes)
Rash
Mouth sores, muscle weakness, or vision changes.
If any of these side effects occur, tell your doctor straight away.

Severe allergic reactions occur very rarely. If you have a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) such as shortness of breath, swollen lips, or swollen tongue, call 999 immediately.

Glucophage SR warnings

Glucophage SR is not suitable for everyone. You should tell your doctor if:

you suffer from kidney disease or renal failure
Do you have heart failure or have recently had a heart attack
you are an alcoholic or consume more than 14 units of alcohol per week
you suffer from liver disease
you suffer from lung disease
you are already pregnant or breastfeeding.

Some medicines may interact with Glucophage SR. You may be told that Glucophage SR is not suitable for you if you are already taking the following medicines:

medicines for heart disease or high blood pressure
medicines for kidney disease
anti-inflammatory medicines
some steroid medicines
certain antibiotics
medicines for indigestion or stomach ulcers.
