How does Elleste Solo work?
Elleste Solo contains estradiol, a synthetic version of estrogen. During menopause, estrogen levels drop, and using Elleste Solo helps restore levels to treat side effects such as vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and night sweats.
Because Elleste Solo does not contain a medication that mimics progesterone, it is usually only prescribed to women who have had their uterus removed (a procedure called a hysterectomy). If you still have a uterus, you can take Elleste Solo, but you must also take an additional HRT medication that contains progesterone.
How to get Elleste Solo?
One Elleste Solo tablet should be taken daily. If you have had a hysterectomy, no additional treatment is required.
In women who still have their uterus or womb, a medication containing progesterone should be added and taken for 12 to 14 days of each cycle. This helps prevent any unhealthy changes in your uterus. If you still have regular periods, you should start taking Elleste Solo on the first day of bleeding. If your periods have stopped or are irregular, you can start taking Elleste Solo at a time that suits you.
If you forget to take a tablet, you should take it as soon as you remember. If the missed tablet is more than 12 hours late, skip the dose and take the next tablet at the scheduled time. Each tablet should be swallowed with a little water.
Dosage of Elleste Solo
Elleste Solo is available in two strengths:
- 1 mg tablets contain 1 mg of estradiol hemihydrate
- The 2 mg tablets contain 2 mg of estradiol hemihydrate.
Most women start with the lowest dose. 2 mg tablets are sometimes prescribed to women at risk for osteoporosis who cannot take other treatments that prevent osteoporosis.
Are there any side effects?
Like all medicines, Elleste Solo can have side effects. The most common side effects include:
- Weight gain or loss
- Mood swings
- Tendency or increase in breast volume
- Nausea (feeling sick)
- Abdominal pain
- Changes in libido
- Headache
- Redness or itching
- Swelling, fluid retention, or edema
- Fungal infection of the vagina
- heartburn
- Vertigo
- Migraines
- Palpitations.
If these side effects persist or become bothersome, you should consult your doctor for further advice.
The use of HRT may cause a slight increase in the risk of certain types of cancer, including breast and uterine cancer. The risk increases when you use a more concentrated preparation for a long time. The benefits of using Elleste Solo must outweigh the possible risks.
Severe allergic reactions are very rare. If you have a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) including wheezing or swelling of the lips or tongue, call 999 immediately.
